Ninja Gaiden 3 Boss / Trial Guide (UN5)

Introduction:
This guide will not cover everything its main focus lies with detailed explanation on most of the bossfights and important information about some trial strategies. I have been playing ng3 for quite some time now and I enjoy it but it pains to see people falling for the same mistakes I did which are most of the time caused by the bad implementation of the game itself. Videos are a great help, I will be using links from youtube videos which helped me on my learning process.

You might have seen those videos in other threads or elsewhere but even the great tutorial videos of xxryuujin do not show everything. Don’t misunderstand me, there are a lot of great tutorials out there (and xxryuujin did a great job) but the info I am about to write down here will help you avoiding the mistakes I did on my learning process (which are A LOT).

Remember that this guide is for players who know how to fight the bosses in general but wonder why they sometimes still hit a wall and cannot improve further or die to things they might not fully understand. For the basics of the basics on the moveset of all the fights be it the enemy moveset or what combo to use please consult the video links which I am going to provide in this thread before reading my info.

Most of the stuff I am going to write down here might also be viable for RazorsEdge (but I cannot confirm that until I get my hands on it on January).

I am going to write combos in their xbox version i.e. XYXXY for an izuna

Boss Guide
General info: never fight a boss on uneven terrain, avoid at all costs. This might cause some of his attacks to either miss (which is actually good) or even hit when you dodge them. It also messes up some of your combos.

Alexei
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhatZpZT ... 4&index=16

Important:
#1 Glitch - Random Air Grab opposite Player
The Host of the game takes Alexei. If you don’t do this then this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5VpS4PZlUs
will happen a lot. His grab targeting tries to catch the position of both players and takes prio of the host (most of the time).

You can avoid this by breaking LoS (line of sight) to Alexei by using walls or a realy crazy range (the range won’t really stop him, trust me)

#2 Glitch – Random Instant Air Grab
This will happen to you when you try fight Alexei in a corner. He might want to dodge away but his butt might crash into the wall behind him, this will allow him to instantly get air status and grab you.
There are cases in which you either:
- get hit but don’t receive any damage
- get grabbed and die
- he misses
- misses and goes for your partner

Just make sure to NEVER fight him in a corner. You can take the risk but trust me you don’t want to mess up a good MN15 or UN5 attempt with this. Instant grabs can also happen when you fight him against a wall, but there is a MUCH lesser chance for this to occur.

#3 Glitch – Random Frame Reset / Random Combo reset
Can happen when:
- Heavy Lag
- Your partner stands too close (or you try to double team him)
- Wrong timing on the Scythe Combo input

Just avoid double teaming him, I will explain the scythe later.

Beating Him
Sword/Claws
- No risk here, watch the videos on how it’s done

Scythe
XYX wait XYX, you are going to basically “spam” this move on him. The important part about this is the timing on the input. Don’t do a fast brainless input. You delay every move, Alexei might do a tornado after your first XY, if you did the last X input you won’t be able to dodge his tornado. When he dashes away after the Y you delay the last X so Ryu gets closer to him since the attack changes (this will avoid getting grabbed in EVERY occasion except if he is in a corner (see top) ).

To sum it up. Slow input, wait a millisecond before continuing the combo the ground, wait for alexei’s animation for his next move to start. You can get lucky and combo him dead without him going into enrage (perfect loop). If he enrages in the loop then STOP, watch him, either get AWAY or instantly start the 360y to finish him off.

Ultimate Ninja 05 Tip
If you have a ninpo saved for Alexei, wait for his lighting ground hit (the weird lighting cube). When he starts jumping use a ninpo so he jumps into it, this will almost oneshot him.

Elizabeth
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhatZpZT ... 4&index=16

Important:
#1 Problem – Elizabeth changing Target
It is essential for any player who attempts to beat UN5 to know how she works 100%. When you dodge her on the open field or blocking her attack + too much range (more than one slide away) she will change her target to the opposite player (if he is in LoS).

To avoid her going banzai all over the place try to break your LoS to her for a split second (never stay behind an object just dash behind it and immediatly dash away!!!!!! This will avoid a glitch and she won’t teleport and just go airborne)

Let her dash into places where she cannot target the other player after her repositioning.

#2 Problem – She hits and you couldn’t dodge (after you attacked her in the air)

This will happen if she has a wall behind her, making it impossible for the scythe to apply the knockback of the slideYXXX combo. Sometimes Ryu switches position with her which lets you face the wall when you come down, in this case you have to wait for her stomp and slide windpath instead of trying a dumb slide jump which will get you hit when she doesn’t do another BloodCircle or BloodBall.

#3 Problem – She changed target What to do?
She is going to dash several times in the direction of your partner. Tell him over voicechat that she is coming so he can hold down block, close the gap to her so that she will dash back after her little tour. If she completely switches the focus to your partner run to her and only do the following move when she is not performing any action runningHoldYreleaseYshuriken. You have to learn this move it is IMPORTANT, it does massive damage and gives you a really good chance of getting her back. You can also perform a 360y but the damage here is worse.

Beating Her
Sword/Claws:
- Watch the tutorial videos, I recommend not using those weapons against her

Scythe
While she is in the Air
- BloodBall – slideYXXX, dash jump away (except when you go risky and she is against a wall)
- After her Air Dash to the ground (A lot of extra damage!), you just have done a slide jump to get safe distance, now you do another slide then XY OL runningHoldYreleaseYshuriken. It is IMPORTANT that the X of the XY misses, if it doesn’t then you will die. The X is only for you to get into range for the Y. And no you cannot just do a slide Y since this counts as a different move which will make her kill you

How do i get her to spam her Bloodball and keep her in the Air?

Here I assume you have at least seen or experienced some skilled player fighting her. When Fighting her be it MN13, UN5, MN15 or any other mission just break LoS by sliding behind an object and INSTANTLY sliding back out. This way (as described above) she WILL NOT teleport and just fly up. (Repeat sliding back in and out if she doesnt get in the air on the first try!)

When she is in the air and does the red circles just dash jump and throw shuriken at the end, this will increase the chance of her casting her blood ball.

There are no Objects to hide behind on MN14, what now?
Use the outer Walls, you cannot directly hide behind anything but sliding against a wall several times has the same effect as the hiding (but it is not as good).

I just want to keep her on me and avoid her for my Partner to finish her off
In this case reread the problem section. If you are referring to surviving her on UN5 on both Alexei waves then here is an easy way.

In the BigRoom, try to keep her in the air, this way you can dodge the laserbeam of the spider and her attacks easy while staying out of LoS to your partner who takes on the first Alexei.

In the SmallRoom. Pick ANY corner of the small room, let her charge into you (inside the corner) then you slide as fast as possible away to the next corner. This way she will NEVER under NO CIRCUMSTANCES be able to change the target. She will not be able to hide or kill you since every time you slide away even when she tries her triple kick dash she is going to hit the wall when you slide near one.

Volf
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3d-XJuK ... 4&index=15

#1 Glitch – Volf resets his combo / switches to another attack mid combo
Can happen when:
- Double Teaming him
- Your partner throws shurikens at him
- You fight him near a Pillar (a regular wall wont trigger this glitch)

#2 Glitch – Volf just stops his attacks and walks around
I don’t know the reason as to why this happens. If it does then you either:
- let him push you away and you wait for his next attack (Camera might get screwed up this way!!)
- If you have the scythe just do some 360y’s until he completely blocks all of them then just stop and he will attack normal again.

#3 Glitch – Volf’s hitbox is broken / Volf does his ranged attack while standing close
This glitch will occur almost every time in online play when the player taking on Volf dies and gets resurrected then tries to get him back. Volf will randomly just charge midcombo, break almost all of his moves, do something stupid and goes banzai all over the place. When this happens you have to prepare to dodge his charge at close meele range. You can do this by just doing a windpath. The windpath (even when you screw up the timing) will ALWAYS rescue you from his charge, you will never receive any dmg (just a knockback). After his run he will recover and be open for a few hits. Do not go full out until you see that his hitbox is normal again.

This Glitch will also occur when both players stand near Volf on spawn and the actual player that wants to take him didn’t get initial aggro.

Beating Him
Sword
After every attack just slide and do a full X combo. Just dodge his next move and interrupt it midway. You have to train his moveset to know when to actually move in. It is really easy, just select the mentor trial and play against him a few times

Scythe
Same as Sword but I play always safe. There are risky strategies which make it possible to kill him within a couple of seconds.

24 Seconds Volf Kill by That-Is-My-Way
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dwpwy7wuFP4

Performing such an incredible killing technique on him requires a lot of skill and you need to get a bit lucky on his attacks (there are moves which cannot be interrupted). As a little side note the player performing the 24seconds kill is one of the very best players out there, so you better try to play him safe first because this is super hard to pull off.

The easy way to kill him is to use the slideYXXX don’t add any other attack to it. One more X or Y at the end is going to have you landing on a different spot you attacked from. Which means constant camera turning and you might find yourself getting pushed against a wall. If you see one of the moves missing in the air -> STOP the input, fall to the ground and watch what he does.

Never stand two slides away, this will trigger his ranged attack mode. Always be one slide away, this will allow you to easily get a grasp of the situation.

Vey good guide bro and very helpful.

Now I dont want to say something to press you or make you stress, but if you have the time and the knowledge (iam sure you have that one) you can make guide like this one for the other missions, like un4,mn15.......

Otherwise keep the good work bro, we need structural guide strategies for every NG game. We have to turn this site to the biggest NG leksikon in the web :thumb:

I want to wait since i might copy/paste and edit this for RazorsEdge. From what i saw so far they didnt realy change the bosses except making them easier (which is to maybe fit the girls or the new weapons). So going for missions with addwaves would be overkill now for me considering that not many are playing NG3. Anyway if they just fix alexei than RE is already super awesome for me.

For MN15 just as a simple example in NG3 you have 12 aliens 4 spiders at the start if you plan ahead both players get 6 each for a UT (sword/scythe), sword users safes it for the apes that come after first spider gets killed (which the Scythe users uses his UT on) and then its 9 apes, 8 get killed by sword UT last by Scythe so he gets another UT charged for the last spider. And on Razors Edge it will be something like: Double Scythe one keeps all enemies the other facerolls everything with UTs. Thats my worst fear so far but i havent seen any videos of actual challenging trials so far in RE :(
